The Mechanism of Probiotics in Preventing the Risk of Hypercholesterolemia

Probiotics are beneficial live microorganisms because they provide health benefits to the host after being consumed in sufficient amounts, primarily by increasing proliferation of native digestive microflora. Hypercholesterolemia is a condition which cholesterol serum concentration elevated significantly (exceeds 200 mg/dL). characterized high plasma levels low-density lipoprotein (LDL) and low high-density (HDL). This review aims examine mechanism action probiotics preventing risk hypercholesterolemia reducing LDL human body. The cholesterol-lowering effect probiotic bacteria can be classified into four basic principles such as 1) conversion coprostanol, 2) deconjugation probiotics’ bile salt hydrolase enzyme, 3) alteration protein expression related synthesis, 4) production Short Chain Fatty Acids (SCFA) probiotics. Cholesterol converted coprostanol not absorbed small intestine directly excreted with feces. deconjugated easily precipitated thus intestine. It also induces assimilation membrane. Finally, SCFAs, produced fermentation within tract, upregulate synthesis HDL apolipoprotein.
